These days, a garage can be a wonderful addition that can serve as everything from a man cave to a home gym – when it’s not storing our cars of course! For most however, the garage is where things go to be forgotten about. When moving into a new home, If you don’t intend for this to be a converted space, it’s a good idea to start off with good habits by getting organized right away.
- Don’t save boxes you don’t need
- Use shelving to help organize items off of the floor
- For boxes you DO need, flatten them out and store then off the ground to prevent they from being ruined by moisture
- Store items in storage totes with great seals (and label them for easy access)
- Avoid storing food in your garage
- Seal holes and address any cracks that provide easy access for pests
- Avoid using it to store valuables or irreplacable items such as family photos or important documents
- Garages need dusting too! Vacuum and dust it regularly to avoid bringing dust and allergens inside
